PREMIER LEAGUE teams Rivoli, Portmore and Seba scored wins while Waterhouse and Constant Spring drew 0-0 as the second round of the Red Stripe Champions Cup Knockout first leg continued yesterday.
St Catherine's Rivoli scored a massive 8-1 victory over Bath Sports Club of St. Thomas as gunshots rang around the Prison Oval.
Amid the mayhem in the old capital, Devon Hodges notched three goals in the 77th, 84th and 85th minutes and was ably supported by a brace by Patrick Beech in the 10th and 79th minutes.
Omar Parker in the 21st minute, the lanky Kemar Mills in the 37th and Gregory Teape in the 69th completed the rout.
MIRACLE
It will take a miracle in the second leg for Rivoli not to advance to the third round.
Over at the Elleston Wakeland Centre, a 51st-minute header by the towering Onandi Lowe gave defending champions Portmore United a 1-0 win over Village United.
At Jarrett Park, Seba, courtesy of a 74th-minute strike by Kemar James, upset NPL frontrunners Harbour View 1-0. The Stars of the East have now won only one of their past eight games in all competitions.
Meanwhile, at the Spring Complex, Constant Spring and Waterhouse played to a lacklustre 0-0 draw and have everything to play for in the return leg.
The red-hot Waterhouse, without the prolific Kevin Lamey, could not break down a determined Constant Spring aggregation and will have to utilise their home advantage next week. Danny Lyn, technical director of Constant Spring, was disappointed that his team did not gain any advantage from their home fixture.
"I would like to have got a lead before going back to Waterhouse. We have it all to play for in the next round," said Lyn. "I thought we got enough chances in the first half but that's the way football goes."
OPTIMISTIC
However, Lyn was optimistic about the return leg next week at Drewsland. "There are some missing players from the Waterhouse squad and I expect to see them back next week but we will be ready for them."
Meanwhile, Wayne Fair-clough, coach of Waterhouse, said he was not satisfied with the result and that his side should have gained an advantage.
"It is disappointing. I think we played to expectations and it was a good game for us. We got a lot of chances and we squandered them," said Fairclough.
"They will be coming stoutly but we will counter them," he said of next week's clash.
