WHILE THE Jamaica Hockey Federation/Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association's boys' competition climaxes today, the girls' competition has also heated up quite nicely.
In the boys' section, the third-place play-off between dethroned champions Jamaica College and Mona High taps off at 2:00 p.m. and the final between Munro and Papine will start at 3:30 p.m at the Mona field.
Meanwhile, as the girls' competition approaches its final, Wolmer's have put themselves a game away from clinching the last spot.
With the final set for next Monday, Wolmer's are in second position, along with Alpha, on nine points after thrashing Papine 4-0 at Mona yesterday.
Shanae Armstrong scored a brace for Wolmer's while Keisha-Gayle Walker and Naifa Murray scored a goal each.
In the day's other game, Patrice Clarke also scored a brace for Excelsior as her team ran out 2-0 winners over St. Hugh's and became the first team to make Monday's final.
Excelsior now have a maximum 18 points and are clear favourites to take the competition. Yesterday's results have left three teams, Wolmer's, Alpha, and St. Andrews, in with chances of making the final.
Alpha and Wolmer's appear to have the best chances with both teams on nine points and each other to play. A win for either tomorrow would put them into the final.
St. Andrews have to worry about the other two. With one game to go, they have eight points and must win and hope that the game between Alpha and Wolmer's ends in stalemate.
The competition continues today with St. Andrews playing St. Hugh's at 1:00 p.m.
