Kidney needed for Dragonaires band member

COURTNEY ROBB, a member of Byron Lee and the Dragonaires for 35 years, is in need of a kidney, following a kidney and lung operation.

The bass player and MC for the band is now recuperating at home after the successful operations on January 17.

In Christmas 2005, Robb began bleeding from the nose at a free public show in the Turks and Caicos Islands. "I couldn't continue the show," he said.

He was hospitalised from January 3-29, following the discovery of a cyst between his lung and heart. As a result of the cyst, he was unable to attend the 2006 Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival for the tribute to Byron Lee. His illness also limited his ability to walk, but he saw progress in his walking on January 29 and is still in the relearning stages.

Unless he receives a kidney that is compatible with his system, Robb will have to do dialysis twice weekly for the rest of his life. "I'm thankful that I do not have cancer and I'm very grateful for the assistance I received," said Robb.
