AN EXPLOSIVE hat-trick by Maverley/Hughenden's Curtis Eldermire propelled his team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over fellow Super League competitors Star Cosmos in their Red Stripe Champions Cup KO clash at the Maverley playing field yesterday.
Eldermire put the team ahead when he smashed a 30-metre effort which curled to the left of a fully-stretched Star Cosmos custodian Adrian Williams.
However, another sensational effort saw the confident Star Cosmos team level. Adrian Henry latched on to a deflected shot 20 metres out and struck it ferociously past Maverley's goalkeeper Rayon Spencer.
Henry put his team further ahead in the 76th minute, but headers by Eldermire in the 85th minute and seconds before the final whistle, cancelled out Henry's efforts giving Maverley/Hughenden a one-goal cushion heading into the second leg.
