DESPITE SLIPPERY conditions caused by overnight rain, the 17th annual ICWI Ladies Polo tournament proved very exciting, as the White team defeated Blue 3-1 at the Kingston Polo Club, Caymanas Estates, last Sunday.

White were quick to start when Rowena Murray (Kenya) scored almost from the throw in and then Kristy Outhier (USA) followed up to give the White a 2-0 lead at the end of the first chukka.

Early in the second chukka, Blue got on track when Sherri-Lyn Hensman (Zimbabwe) converted and the score remained at 2-1 into the third chukka.

MISSED PENALTY

Blue could have tied up early in the third chukka when Lesley Fong Yee missed a 40-yard penalty.

The game improved as the field dried out and the ladies got more comfortable with the surface which resulted in more speed and excitement for the appreciative crowd.

In the fourth chukka, Emma Tomlinson converted a 10-yard penalty to give whites a 3-1 lead.

Despite a number of near misses through the remainder of chukkas four and five, the match ended on a high note at 3-1.

Most valuable player was Emma Tomlinson from the UK and best playing pony was Ramadan, owned by Dr. John Masterton and ridden by Rowena Murray.

Teams:

WHITE: Peta-Gaye Railton (Jamaica), Rowena Murray (Kenya), Emma Tomlinson (UK), Kristy Outhier (USA)

BLUE: Susan Wates (Jamaica), Milly Scott (UK), Lesley Fong Yee (Jamaica), Sherri-Lyn Hensman (Zim-babwe).
