RELEGATION BATTLERS Wadadah and Rivoli played to a 0-0 draw in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League at Jarrett Park on Sunday night.
On a day when only two matches were played in the league, both of which were in western Jamaica, neither team did anything to improve their standings by much. Rivoli United, which started the league in last place on goal difference behind Constant Spring, inched one point above the inactive team, while Wadadah kept their ninth position but crawled up to six points behind Boys' Town and Arnett Gardens, both of which will meet later this week.
For Rivoli United the result would have been more disappointing as they finished well off their target of getting three points from Wadadah, the team they are most likely to overhaul. The draw kept Wadadah seven points above them.
"If we had lost today we would have definitely been out because they would have been 10 points ahead of us but we are still in it based on today's result," said Rivoli coach Calvert Fitzgerald.
"We wanted to win it from the first half and take charge of the game. We took control of the game but did not score. I thought we played well, except in final third," continued Fiztgerald who added that a draw was a justifiable result.
Wadadah's Anthony "Follies" Williams said based on the flow of the game a draw was "satisfactory".
"It seems as if our playmakers did not click today as in Daniel Ricketts and Rohan Reid. At least we did not concede a goal. For some time we have not been able to keep a clean sheet. Yes, it is disappointing but as long as we did not lose it was not a bad result," Williams said.
