Davies promises continued stability
published: Wednesday | February 15, 2006

Dennise Williams, Staff Reporter

MINISTER OF Finance and Planning and People's National Party (PNP) presidential candidate, Dr. Omar Davies, says the pending change in the leadership of the country will not undermine its economic position.

Minister Davies sought to allay any fears about the upcoming PNP election to be held on the grounds of Jamaica College on Saturday, February 25.

"Let me assure you that whatever happens on February 25th, that the gains which we have made in terms of macroeconomic stability, the consistency of policy which has characterised our performance over the last several years will continue," he said. he made these remarks at the Canada-Jamaica Business Council luncheon held at the Knutsford Court Hotel yesterday.

TOP SPOT COMPETITION

Minister Davies continued, "I have spoken to my rivals and colleagues and make this statement definitively."

Minister Davies is in competition for the top spot in his party against Minister of Local Government, Portia Simpson Miller, Minister of Security Dr. Peter Phillips and Member of Parliament Dr. Karl Blythe.

"We have agreed that nothing is to be said or no untoward action taken which will threaten that macroeconomic stability," he said. "There will be consistency of policy and there will be no hiccups. We will just move into another phase of development."
