Estimates to be tabled in House March 7
published: Wednesday | February 15, 2006

Dionne Rose, Staff Reporter

SHAW

FINANCE MINISTER Omar Davies has announced that the Supplementary Estimates will be tabled in Parliament on March 7, two months later than its usual tabling.

Mr. Davies made the disclosure while responding to questions from Opposition Spokesman on Finance Audley Shaw on the late tabling of the Supplementary Estimates.

He said that the Supplementary Estimates would be submitted to Cabinet on Monday, March 6 and tabled on March 7 when it will be subjected to discussions.

In the meantime, the Finance Minister said that over the past four months inflation was less than one per cent and has projected that for the fiscal year inflation should be 12 per cent.

OPPOSITION CONCERNS

The Opposition had raised concerns about the Government's delay in tabling the document, which provides an approximation of Government's planned spending for the incoming fiscal year.

The House of Representatives also approved a resolution moved by Mr. Davies to withdraw more than $2.5 billion from the Capital Development Fund.

The money is expected to be utilised for budgetary support to the Consolidated Fund and programmes of the Jamaica Bauxite Institute.

But while the resolution was supported, several Opposition Members of Parliament, including Pearnel Charles and Ernie Smith, who represents mined-out bauxite communities, lashed out at the Government for what they said were inadequate allocations for these communities.
