Jamaica's future

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I READ an article in the Sunday Gleaner by the most Hon. Edward Seaga entitled 'The Missing Link in Education' dated 12/02/06 to which I think the leadership contenders should take a long and hard look at. For once I agree wholeheartedly with the gentleman, but the question begs to be asked, why had he not done something about it whilst he was in the political arena? One of the points he raised was that the curriculum should be reshaped to include character-based training in order to teach young people about life skills and moral values. Our children, and I must be careful not to stereotype them now, seem to have no moral values.
PROMISCUOUS BEHAVIOUR
Take our young girls and their promiscuous behaviour; 12-year-old boys have illegal firearms at primary schools; teenagers are pulling firearms at security guards at their schools. Believe it or not these are our men and women of tomorrow. In this lot are our future teachers, doctors, policemen and women, business persons and politicians. To read Mr Seaga`s article would be to put it in the proper perspective that Jamaica is in for a rough future unless a serious change comes over this country. To put it in a nutshell, the choice we make in electing a new Prime Minister will determine the direction the country will be headed. Let us all wait and see.
I am, etc.,
