School closure, wrong move

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HOPE the Ministry of Education realises that it has erred in granting permission (if in fact it did) for schools in and around the Sabina environs to be closed during the World Cup Cricket matches next year.
Maxine Henry-Wilson cannot speak on behalf of students and parents and therefore has no right to be party to a decision on school closures. Said school closings cannot be in the national interest either. The nation has been engaged in a dialogue about education reform and the significance of providing our children with the best possible education.
Major Desmond Brown's declaration that people in the affected areas are being surveyed to get feedback is ludicrous. Surveys are (best) administered before decisions are made, not after. Who is he and the other planners trying to fool? I applaud President Reid's aggressive response and encourage him to stay on top of this issue. The odds may be against him, but the struggle continues.
I am, etc.,
