Kingston - A symbol of our nation

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN HIS article of February 15, 'Remodelling Kingston', Delroy Chuck very aptly describes the sorry state of the official seat of government of the nation, but one statement caught my interest: " ...it (Kingston) simply doesn't represent anything that looks like a capital."
Symbolically a nation's capital is reflective of its government and people. It usually holds much of the history and character of a nation as its centre of authority.
IMAGE OF A CAPITAL CITY
It may be true that Kingston does not come close to what we think of as a capital city should be, but upon reflection, as Mr Chuck's article read, "destroyed by human conduct and governmental abandonment", Kingston may very well symbolise the state of this nation.
The dilapidated, crumbling city, in all its decay and neglect, echoes the same cry for help as that of the abandoned people of Jamaica.
