ARNETT GARDENS, Waterhouse and Rivoli United advanced to the third round of the Red Stripe Champions Cup Knockout all-island competition despite indifferent results yesterday.
Arnett Gardens won 3-0 at home, Waterhouse got by Constant Spring 3-1 and Rivoli lost 2-1 at Bath Sports Club.
At the York Oval in St Thomas, Kevin Burke and Julian Bailey led homesters Bath Sports Club to a 2-1 win over Rivoli, for whom Patrick Beech replied. However, Bath were eliminated 9-3 on aggregate after losing the first leg 8-1.
Over at Drewsland, Waterhouse made good use of their home advantage to stop Constant Spring 3-1 after playing to a 0-0 draw last week.
Demar Phillips (39th), Irvino English (72nd) and Jomo Gordon (79th) got on the scoresheet, while Akeem Thenstead had briefly equalised in the 50th minute to give Constant Spring hope.
At the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Arnett Gardens with goals from Jonathan Williams (6th), Cornel ChinSue (61st) and Donovan Bernard (88th) easily saw off Clark's Town of Trelawny 3-0 on aggregate.
Arnett, which were held to a 0-0 draw in Trelawny last week, got on the scoresheet quite early through Jonathan Williams to settle their nerves. But the expected flood of goals did not materalise as the half ended 1-0 with Clark's Town very much in the hunt.
A lackadaisical Arnett Gardens missed a series of easy chances before the coaches rung the changes to good effect.
Cornel ChinSue with his second touch of the game made it 2-0 with a left-footed shot from just inside the box, crippling any thoughts Calrk's Town had of squeezing an equaliser.
Another substitute Bernard made it 3-0 in the 88th minute, rifling a torrid shot into the roof of the net from close range.
Winning coach, Jerome Waite was disappointed with his team's poor finishing that kept the game close for a while.
"Today it was definitely a stroll in the park. The opponent had little to offer. The only concern is the amount of chances we created today and didn't capitalise. All in all it was a good win," said Waite.
Meanwhile, Stephen Petgrave, coach of Clark's Town, said his team performed well and was happy to reach this far in the competition.
"The team played well but we have to respect the advanced playing of Arnett. They are at home, but I think we had a very good first half," said Petgrave. "It was very good experience for them and I think they have learnt a lot," he added.
