THE WATERHOUSE Ex-press is back on track following a 3-1 victory which eliminated Wray and Nephew Premier League cellar dwellers Constant Spring from the Red Stripe Champions Cup on Wednesday evening.
"We had been playing well, but after losing to Boys' Town we were a bit down, but today we came good and once again all is well with the team, " said Waterhouse coach Wayne Fairclough after his team advanced to the third round.
Boys' Town's derailment of the premier league's second-place team came in the final of the Western Union Jackie Bell competition - a 2-0 victory. Before that, Waterhouse had put together a 14-game unbeaten streak.
However, Fairclough believes Wednesday's victory will see his team return to its winning ways as it faces Sunday's colossal clash against Tivoli Gardens at home. A win could see them cut the distance between themseleves and league leaders Harbour View to just two points.
"We have really played with a lot of discipline and dedication this season. Our tactical ploys have been working out really well and I think it will continue in that vein," he said.
MISSED OPPORTUNITIES
On Wednesday, Demar Phillips, who missed his fair share of opportunities throughout the game, put the team in front when he broke into the box, from a through ball and fired past Constant Spring custodian Kirk Williams in the 39th minute.
However, Constant Spring came roaring back through youth player Akeem Thenstead. A curling Damion Benjamin free kick initially saved by Richard McCallum, saw the player pounce from close range to bring the teams level in the 50th minute. Waterhouse regained control in the 72nd minute when a Shawn Hunter hand ball on the edge of the area saw referee Peter Prendergast point to the spot and Irvino English calmly step up to regain his team's lead.
Jomo Gordon sealed the deal in the 79th minute when he ran on to a Kevin Lamey through ball and comfortably slotted it past Williams. Now eliminated from both the Jackie Bell KO and Red Stripe Cup, Constant Spring will now turn all their attention to staying in top-flight football.
"Obviously the next task that we have on hand is to stay in the Premier League. I was impressed with a couple of the young players today and I think if we put in effort like we did today, I think we will stay in the Premier League." said Constant Spring coach Maurice 'Danny' Lyn.
