Trelawny car-stealing ring busted
published: Saturday | February 18, 2006

Claudine Housen, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

Three men are now in custody and three motor vehicles recovered after the Trelawny police cracked a car-stealing ring in Deeside on Thursday.

The men, whose identities are being withheld, are from St. Andrew and Trelawny addresses and are between the ages of 32 and 52 years.

Reports are that between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Thursday, the police conducted an operation in Deeside in the parish.

During the operation the lawmen found a Toyota pickup truck registered 3854 BQ and a burnt out Toyota Corolla registered 7773 EA. On further investigation, three men were found nearby in a parked Toyota Camry motor car, registered 8873 EM, also believed to be stolen.

The men were questioned and later taken into custody on suspicion of being involved in a stolen motor vehicle racket.

Sergeant Andrea Brown,
information liaison officer for Trelawny, yesterday issued a stern warning to persons involved in motor vehicle theft.

"We are warning persons who are in the habit of stealing motor vehicles to desist because we are after them and we will catch up with them," she said.

Since the start of the month, the Trelawny police have recovered a total of seven motor vehicles, including the most recent find.
