Closing school for cricket??
published: Saturday | February 18, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

I write with great disgust in regards to the closing of schools due to sporting activities.

How can the Government of Jamaica agree to something like that? How can they close three major high schools, one comprehensive high and one primary? How can we put our children's education on hold because of cricket? I thought they said EDUCATION IS THE KEY.

Can't they find a better solution to this matter rather than closing these schools?

Since the area will be closed off, take the children of these schools to the point of closure and then shuttle them to their relevant schools. I am sure these visitors would not agree with school closures.

You must all ask yourselves the question, would they do the same for us Jamaicans?

"NO", I do not think so. What are parents to do with our children for that whole week? Don't we have a say? Do the PTAs of these schools agree with this? Our children need to be educated for that week too. I STRONGLY DISAGREE.

I am, etc.,

AHG
