No to buggery

Some years ago, the current Prime Minister told Jamaica that the Government had no plans to decriminalise any aspect of the buggery laws. Undoubtedly, decriminalisation would provide some breathing space to gay men.

The physical abuse and disrespect for gay men and lesbians is wrong. However, the Government should remember that laws prohibiting buggery represent the nation's view that only sexual behaviour that promotes population growth, stable families and an example for our children is permissible.

Water shortage

This is an open letter to the Minister of Water and Housing. We the citizens of Bonitto Crescent in Mandeville have not been getting any water for the longest while. Bonitto Crescent is a community in the town of Mandeville and we can't get any water.

It is a shame and disgrace that we are saying "water is life" and your ministry is not trying to solve our problem. Sometimes we can't get to have a bath. Please Mr. Minister, please look into the matter and check with the local office in Mandeville to see what you can do for us because we can't get a good answer from them.

- Linton Powell, 31 Bonitto Crescent, Mandeville P.O.

Extra days
for school

As there is so much time between now and the dates that schools are to be closed to facilitate World Cup Cricket 2007, I hope that the school administrators will be able to fit some extra days into the school term to make up for the days that we expect to be lost!

The solution seems simple enough and we would expect that as a nation we understand the importance of World Cup Cricket and would all endeavour to make the necessary sacrifices for the good of Jamaica even where we have no obvious short-term personal gain!
