Cops kill second most wanted in east Kingston
published: Sunday | February 19, 2006

Robert Lalah, Staff Reporter

THE SECOND most wanted man in the Eastern Kingston Police Division was shot and killed in McKintyre Villa by police early yesterday, triggering an angry reaction from residents which left two police service vehicles destroyed and another damaged.

Donovan 'Clarkie' Clarke was wanted in connection with four murders, shootings and robberies committed in the area.

According to Deputy Superintendent Steve McGregor of the Eastern Kingston Police Division, about 4:30 am, an operation carried out by members of the Eastern Kingston police, the Flying Squad, Area Four police, Mobile Reserve and the Caribbean Search Centre, went in search of Clarke.

He was shot at premises in McKintyre Villa and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Specifics on the circumstances related to the shooting were still sketchy at press time.

Residents of the area, however, insisted that even though Clarke was wanted by the police, he should have been taken into custody and not killed.

The residents, who claim that Clarke was shot at in the ceiling of the bathroom of his home where he was hiding, came out onto the roadway and set two service vehicles ablaze and damaged another.

By mid-afternoon, however, the police managed to calm the residents and regain control of the area.

Delano Wait was the only person ahead of Clarke on the Eastern Kingston Police Division most wanted list. The two were regarded by the police as being instrumental in a number of crimes committed in the area.
