JAMAICANS LACENA Golding-Clarke and Veronica Campbell continued their impressive form this season at yesterday's Norwich Union Indoor Grand Prix at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.
Golding-Clarke, who ran a world leading time 7.83 seconds in Leipzig last Sunday, had another impressive display yesterday - winning the 60 metre hurdles in 7.87 seconds, the fourth fastest time this season.
In Golding-Clarke's impressive display, American world outdoor champion Michelle Perry was once again beaten into second place. Perry was timed in 7.88.
World outdoor 100m hurdles silver medallist Delloreen Ennis-London was fifth in 8.07 seconds.
Meanwhile, Olympic 200m champion Campbell, who has been dominating the 60m dash for which she shares the world-leading mark this year with Russian Mariya Bolikova of 7.04 seconds, switched up to the 200m in style.
SECOND FASTEST TIME
Campbell raced to an 22.84 win, the second fastest time in the world this season. Campbell's victory, which places her behind Russian Yuliya Gushchina (22.82) on this season's world top list, was good enough to beat compatriot Peta-Gaye Dowdie who ran a season best 23.02. Dowdie, the 1999 and 2000 national 100m champion, bettered her previous 23.43.
In the men's event, Jamaica's Omar Brown (21.09) was fourth, beaten by new 300m world record holder Wallace Spearmon (20.68).
Davian Clarke, husband of Lacena, finished second in the men's 400m in 46.29 seconds. England's Robert Tobin won the event in 46.18.
In the women's event, Novellene Williams was disqualified while Bahamian Tonique Williams-Darling won in 51.85 seconds.
Elva Goulbourne was fourth in the women's long jump with a leap of 6.46m.
National 800m champion Kenia Sinclair and Madrea Hyman both failed to finish in the women's 3000m, which was won by Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia (8:41.22).
In the women's 60m, France's Christine Arron (7.16) edged out former world indoor medallists Kim Gevaert Belgium (7.20), Zhanna Block of Ukraine (7.21) and American Torri Edwards (7.21) who made her return to the track after a two-year drugs ban.
