Robertson, Green in fine form

University of Technology's Kaliese Spencer races towards the finish line to win the girls' Class One 400m in 53.30 seconds at yesterday's University of the West Indies Invitational held at Stadium East, Kingston.

KINGSTON COLLEGE'S Leford Green, Wolmer's Josef Robertson and UTech/MVP's Kaliese Spencer had good wins at yesterday's fourth staging of the UWI Invitational held at the Stadium East complex.

Green ran 47.08 to beat Robertson, formerly of Calabar (47.20), in the Class One boys' 400 metres event while Spencer, though not a high school student, ran against her junior counterparts to win the women's event in 53.30 ahead of Queen's Crystal Wilson (55.82).

Janeil Smith of St. Hugh's (58.27) beat Latoya Campbell (58.43) in the girls' Class Two 400m, while St. Jago's Samantha Woodburn (58.15) took Class Three over Vere's Nastassia Johnson (59.10).

Melesha Thomas of Queen's (2:20.04) beat Vere's Kenesha Jones (2:21.27) in the Class One girls' 800m while Vere's Kayon Robinson (2:15.23) took Class Two over her teammate, Petrona Layne (2:15.34).

Kenisha McGregor of Vere (2:13.43) beat Roxcile Salmon of St. Hugh's (2:20.57) in the Class Three girls' 800m.

Vere's Kimberly Williams (5.63m) beat St. Jago's Sashakaye Mathias (5.57m) in the long jump Open.

Andre Thomas of Calabar (1:54.37) beat Jamaica College's Bengallo Morrison (1:54.51) in the boys' 800m Class One event.

In the senior section, Nadia Cunningham of Bluebird Track Club won the 800m and 400m events.

In the women's 400m, Cunningham (54.76) beat UTech's Christine Day (55.25) to add to her 2:16.00 victory in the 800m over Millicent Maximilian of UWI Cave Hill campus in Barbados (2:32.87).

MVP CLUB IMPRESSES

MVP, led by Ainsley Waugh (21.33), dominated the men's 200 which saw Mario Forsythe (21.58) and Nester Carter (21.60) collect the minor placings. The top nine finishers were from MVP.

In the men's 400m, UTech/MVP's Gregory Little (47.05) won ahead of Alanzo Barrett of High Performance Training Centre (47.53).

Nyoka Cole took the 200m in 24.28 seconds over her UTech/MVP teammate Day (25.43) and G.C. Foster's Paula Mullings (25.91).

Ricardo Cunningham of Bluebird (1:52.87) took the men's 800m ahead of Alex Morgan of Jamalco (1:52.88).
