Fans to be bussed to cricket events - officials
published: Monday | February 20, 2006

LOCAL ORGANISERS of next year's International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup are looking to bus fans into Kingston from rural parishes during the matches at Sabina Park.

Robert Bryan, executive director of Jamaica Cricket 2007 Ltd., said on Friday that this plan was being explored since there may not be enough hotel rooms and private accommodation in Kingston for visitors.

He said, however, no cruise ships would be docking in Kingston Harbour for the staging of the event.

"We are working out a transportation plan with the Ministry of Tourism through TDPCo to bus people to the event," Mr. Bryan said during a joint press briefing with Kingston Mayor Desmond McKenzie at the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) offices, downtown Kingston.

He explained that the option of temporary housing facilities was also being explored to accommodate more persons. The use of charters to fly persons into Kingston he explained was also an option.

Visitors to the event will be bussed into Kingston from several parishes, including Trelawny, St. Ann and Montego Bay.
