Restoring Jamaica to prosperity
published: Monday | February 20, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

EVERYONE Is waiting out of patience to see our Jamaica land we love restored to a peaceful, calm, law-abiding place as it should be. I have had the privilege of travelling around to a few countries including in Europe and have observed how people live and work to maintain their lifestyle and grieve inside to know that our country is decreasing in terms of economic development.

Almost everywhere you turn in Jamaica, you see abandoned buildings and the ones that are occupied are degrading, old and badly in need of refurbishing. There are old signs everywhere, garbage on our streets. Where is that person with the vision for change and upliftment?

STOP AT NOTHING

Where is that person who will stop at nothing, even if it costs him or her his life, to make the well-needed decisions to cramp crime and violence in our major cities? Who is brave enough to take on the sickening crime, extortion and every criminal activity in the Old Capital and in every major crime-infested area in Jamaica?

I know of people who are yearning to see and want to do major investment in our country, but are scared for their lives and the lives of others. What we need from our leaders is action that will bring stability to the entire country, starting with our inner-city communities and they must start now as we speak. Forget about the current Prime Minister because for 14 years, he and the rest of his administration, including these current presidential contenders, have all failed to put any dent in any of the major problems that our citizens face on a daily basis.

I am, etc.,
