THE BOYS' Town Red Brigade notched their second consecutive home win of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League third round, when they comfortably got by Reno 2-0 at the Collie Smith Drive sports ground yesterday.
Though Reno started brightly, an early goal by the towering Oneil Campbell against the run of play knocked the wind out of their sails.
In the ninth minute he rose high to meet a Jermaine Bailey square and powerfully headed down past Reno custodian Dwayne Kerr to give his team the lead.
Despite the fact that Reno had their fair share of possession, they failed to turn it into quality opportunities in the final third.
BETTER OPPORTUNITIES
Boys' Town on the other hand continued to have the better opportunities to finish the game off and they would finally do so in the 53rd minute. A direct throw-in from close to the half line saw striker Denzil Watson turn and dart away from his marker Dwayne Williams, who was found wanting for pace. Once in the box, Watson fired low, hard and to the right of Kerr from about 10 yards out to seal the deal for his team.
"It was mission accomplished today. We wanted to go out there not to concede any goals while taking our opportunities, and I'm happy with this victory," said Boys' Town technical director Andrew Price.
"Whenever we play at home we want maximum three points and today the job was completed," he added.
However, two goals down, Seba were gifted with a golden opportunity to pull one back. With just about 15 minutes left to go Boys' Town keeper Kirk Porter went for a cross which skimmed off his fingertips and fell at the feet of Reno striker Draion McNain, but two yards out and with the goal at his mercy he swung fiercely, failed to kick all of the ball and could only watch it trickle past the near post, for what is surely one of the worst misses of the season.
"We got our chances and didn't score them and that is a sore point that we need to work on and will continue to work on. However I think we played technically and tactically well," evaluated Reno coach Eaton Bruce.
"I have to continue encouraging him, he is young he will make mistakes, but that is how we all learn, from our mistakes," he said referring to McNain's missed opportunity. Reno remain in 10th place with 23 points, while Boys' Town moved to 34 points.
