Vibrant 'NRG' flowed all night
published: Wednesday | February 22, 2006

Kandré McDonald, Freelance Writer

HUNDREDS OF 'party animals' were let loose last Friday at the Students' Activity Centre, University of Technology (UTech) as the Faculty of Health and Applied Science and the Faculty of Engineering and Computing together staged Kinetic NRG - the J'ouvert Party.

The party got off to an early start, as music courtesy of DJ Slim and others was blazing from the Digicel Musik Truck from as early as 7:30 p.m.

The party was set to end at 11:00 p.m, but the 'NRG' was too great and it was obvious that an abrupt or early end would just spoil a great staging.

The event, therefore, crept well past midnight and the massive crowd did not seem to care.

They were rather preoccupied enjoying the drink, which was on the house and getting the paints out of the tin and on to each other. Females were gyrating like there was no tomorrow and their male counterparts had to do the same to keep the rhythm flowing.

CRAZY STUFF

As midnight loomed and the paint became available as promised, crazy stuff began to happen. Patrons showered each other with paint. Many did not bear the 'burden' alone and found someone to hold and get some of the dripping paint off their body and on to their captive.

The soca music was complemented by dancehall. This dancehall mix, courtesy of DJ Slim, kept the tempo intact, but it was soon back to the soca beat again.
