LONDON (Reuters):
PRINCE CHARLES took legal action yesterday against a newspaper which had printed diaries in which the heir to the British throne described Chinese diplomats as "appalling old waxworks."
The diaries, containing Charles's views on the 1997 handover of the British colony of Hong Kong to China, were copied by a former member of his staff and circulated to newspapers.
Entitled 'The Handover of Hong Kong' or 'The Great Chinese Takea-way', they were published by The Mail on Sunday in November 2005, shortly after a visit to Britain of Chinese President Hu Jintao.
Charles is suing at the High Court for breach of copyright and confidentiality in a case aimed at determining whether members of the British royal family are entitled to the same level of privacy as other members of the public.
