ATHENS OLYMPICS 200 metres gold medallist Veronica Campbell, world 100 metres record holder Asafa Powell and 2005 World Championships triple jump gold medallist Trecia Smith head the 102-member Jamaican contingent named last night for the 18th Common-wealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.

Campbell will compete in the 200 metres and 4x100m while Powell is down for the 100m and 4x100m at the March 15-26 Games in the southern Australian city.

Other leading athletes named in the 47-member track and field squad are 2005 World Champion-ships men's 100m silver medallist Michael Frater, 100m hurdles silver and bronze medallists Delloreen Ennis-London and Brigitte Foster-Hylton and Lacena Golding-Clarke, the 2002 gold medallist in the sprint hurdles. Golding-Clarke missed out on the World Champion-ships last year after losing out to Vonnette Dixon. Dixon won the silver medal in Manchester in 2002, but will not make the trip to Melbourne.

The island will compete in nine sports at the Paraplegic Games in Melbourne. Netball, the only team sport Jamaica will compete in, comprises 12 players headed by captain Oberon Pitterson-Dunn. The other sports are badminton, boxing, cycling, shooting, squash, swimming and table tennis.
