Waterhouse look to leap in front
published: Wednesday | February 22, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

RED-HOT Waterhouse have a chance to take over sole leadership of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) when they host Tivoli Gardens at 6:00 p.m. in one of two rescheduled games today.

In the other encounter, Arnett Gardens welcome their neighbours Boys' Town to the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex at 5:00 p.m.

Waterhouse, unbeaten in 16 league games, have cut the gap from 13 points to just two on leaders Harbour View and for the first time this season, we could have a new leader atop the table.

Harbour View have 54 points and will not be in action, paving the way for second-place Waterhouse to leap-frog them into pole position.

Kevin Lamey, the competition's leading marksman, will have to be at his best, along with Demar Phillips, Jomo Gordon, Garfied Reid, Irvino English and Vincent Earle.

But it is easier said than done and Waterhouse, with two victories this season over Tivoli Gardens, will have to work overtime to get the better of a team bent on finishing at least second.

SKIPPER RETURNS

In the first round, Waterhouse clipped Tivoli 1-0 at Drewsland and then returned to the Edward Seaga Stadium to win 2-1. Will they be lucky a third time? Only time will tell.

Tivoli should welcome back their sweeping skipper, Kasai Hinds, and will be hoping that Jermaine Johnson and Christopher Nicholas pass late fitness tests.

The Collie Smith Drive derby between hosts Arnett Gardens and Boys' Town could go either way.

GROWING IN CONFIDENCE

The more illustrious Arnett Gardens are in seventh position on 32 points and trail the resurgent Boys' Town by two points and will want to correct that.

But that will not be easy as the Red Brigade have been growing in confidence all season and now feel that they belong and can match any team stride for stride.

Only a couple of weeks ago, they surprised Waterhouse 2-0 to lift their first Western Union Jackie Bell trophy.

The thought of relegation is now out the window and the Red Brigade will be pushing to finish as high as possible in the table.

TODAY'S GAMES
