Cricket World Cup opening new markets
published: Friday | February 24, 2006

CARIBBEAN BUSINESS Opportunity Service (CBOS) will stage a business opportunity briefing at the Jamaica Conference Centre on Tuesday, February 28, 2006.

Since CBOS was launched by JAMPRO in December 2005, over 100 businesses have signed up to the service whose main tool is a web-based portal which offers specialized services to its registered members. These include a business matching service for buyers and suppliers; a growing buyers and suppliers directory with business profiles on registered companies featuring links to their websites, and alerts to its members on new and upcoming business opportunities.

Arlene L. Martin, manager for CBOS, has disclosed that the briefing series is part of a registration and awareness drive to get under way in various parts of Jamaica and around the region to encourage more businesses to sign on to CBOS and as such position themselves to take advantage of the potentially lucrative business opportunities.

Among upcoming opportunities the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, are requests to supply tents; publications and printing services; gifts and souvenirs; selected food and furniture; paints; armbands; temporary seating; lighting, electrical and building materials; fencing, construction services among others.

Giving further details, Miss Martin said "the briefing series and workshops, will be geared towards imparting practical information to business operators in sectors such as the creative industries; manufacturing and agri-business; tourism including the accommodation sector; entertainment; craft; restaurant, dining and the food sector and attractions development as well as focus on critical business success areas such as licensing and merchandising; procurement planning and consortium development."

CBOS forms part of the Jamaica Legacy Strategy which is based on a model used successfully in places such as Australia to leverage major sporting and other events.
