MORE CORRUPT cops could soon be facing the courts arising from ongoing investigations involving two drug busts.
The probe is related to two recent raids, during which ganja was recovered, but was reportedly not turned over.
This has been confirmed by Superintendent Bathan Henry, head of the Internal Affairs section of the Anti-Corruption Division of the Professional Standards Branch.
"Nobody was arrested and the drugs were not handed over or entered into the official registers," said Superintendent Henry. "So we are probing those reports. We have some statements and we are collecting other independent statements and in another couple of days, or maybe a week, those files will be ready to be sent to the DPP."
He was speaking on The Gleaner/Power 106 programme 'Breakthrough' on Wednesday evening.
NEW RESOLVE
He said the investigation was part of a more robust approach to rooting out corruption in the police force. As evidence of this new resolve he pointed to the fact that since the start of the year there had been at least 12 cases, including sting operations, in which corrupt policemen had been caught and arrested for their criminal activities.
Superintendent Henry said this in turn was encouraging other members of the force and the public to come forward with additional information.
"They (the public) say they are seeing a difference in that we are arresting those rogue members who are intent on bringing the organisation into disrepute," he explained.
