GOSSIP : Will 'Passions' have the first same-sex marriage?
published: Saturday | February 25, 2006

A writer friend had known the late Michael Landon from when he starred in the 1957 cult classic I Was a Teenage Werewolf. Several years before he died in 1991, she asked him how he felt about any of his children becoming actors. He told her: "It's not a matter of what I want. It's about what they want to do, and whatever they choose, I'll be happy for them, and I know they'll make me proud."

Can't help thinking how proud Mike Landon would have been the day his daughter Jennifer Landon called home to tell her mother that she'd been nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress for her work as Gwen on As the World Turns.

Also nominated as Outstanding Younger Actor was Jesse Le Soffer, who plays Will. The two have been working together for a year, and I'm told the soap has some special plans for their characters not too far down the road.

Mario Lopez made waves when he played Olympic gold medal diving champion Greg Louganis a while back. Now The Bold and the Beautiful has netted the handsome actor and cast him as Hector Ramirez's (Lorenzo Lamas) brother, Dr. Christian Ramirez. One wonders if the good doctor will come between Hector and the woman he loves, Dr. Taylor Hayes Forrester (Hunter Tylo). Or maybe not.

Will daytime's first lesbian marriage take place on Passions? No one's saying it will, but no one's saying it won't. All this speculation is courtesy of the news that Jossara Jinaro is returning to the soap in the role of Rae, the lovely gay lady with whom Simone (Cathy Jeneen Doe) had a relationship.

Sorry to hear of the death of Raul Davila, who played Hector Santos on All My Children in the 1990s. Davila, who died of a heart attack, had a distinguished theatre career in Puerto Rico, and helped establish New York's Channel 47 as a major voice of the area's Hispanic population.

On April 3, two Another World alumni, Eric Roberts and Anne Heche, will star in Lifetime's Fatal Desire, based on the story of a woman who finds 'love' on the Internet and uses her experience to a deadly end.

How do you think soaps are treating older women characters?

According to one of my readers, Thelma, she thinks not so well. She says, "Soaps like Guiding Light and Days of Our Lives have created a false impression of the sexuality of mature women." She says, in part: "For example, Reva (Kim Zimmer, GL) and Marlena (Deidre Hall, Days) should be allowed to be strong and stand up for themselves. Instead, they're forever being the sexual fantasy of some man. I want to see them say no once in a while."

What do you think?
