Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

LUCAS, MELBOURNE, KINGSTON AND St Elizabeth held the upper hand as day one of the 2006 Supreme Venture Super Cup cricket competition bowled off yesterday.

A masterful 200 not out by Damion Jacobs and an entertaining 121 from Donovan Pagon propelled Melbourne to 455-6 declared and had the defending champions Manchester reeling at 58-3 as Leon Bent grabbed 2-10 from seven overs when stumps were drawn.

Jacobs, 20, batted throughout his team's inning for 324 minutes, hitting 21 fours and eight sixes from 273 balls. He shared in a 168-run partnership with Pagon, who banged 18 fours and two sixes during his 121.

Left-arm spinner Andre Dwyer, who captured more than 50 wickets in last year's competition, captured 3-92.

GOOD PERFORMANCE

At Nelson Oval, Lucas skittled out Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) for a paltry 132, with Melvin Wallace top scoring with 37. Veteran Delroy Morgan captured 5-13. In reply, Ryan Smith scored 82 not out and Delroy Morgan scored 57 in a fine all-round performance to guide Lucas to 239-4, a lead of 107 going into today's play.

Roland Holder scored 78 for Kingston as Odean Brown bagged 6-50. When St. Catherine replied, only Tamar Lambert, 38, and Danza Hyatt, 37, made significant contributions.
