Angry at her grandson Kerizie Bell's jail break, Valcie Campbell dips into the mutton dinner she brought for him. WESTERN BUREAU:

FOURTEEN MEN are on the run after escaping from the Clark's Town police lock-up in Trelawny yesterday morning.

The men, who were being held in connection with offences ranging from murder to robbery with aggravation, reportedly made good their escape between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., after prying open a grille on a section of the cell block. Reports are that a total of 15 men had originally escaped. However, one has since been recaptured.

Sergeant Andrea Brown, Constabulary Communication Network officer for Trelawny, said the police station was under extensive repairs and that the prisoners were kept there because there was no other location in the parish to house them.

"The police station is undergoing repairs after years of being in a bad condition ... this is where they (the prisoners) have to remain," she said.

When The Gleaner arrived on the scene relatives of the escaped prisoners vented their anger at what they called the men's stupidity.

Valcie Campbell, grandmother of Kerizie Bell, one of the escapees, said she had brought his dinner but realised he was gone. In her anger, Mrs. Campbell decided to eat the food she brought for her grandson.

"Mi bring food to him and him gone. Lord Jesus, a dead him dead now when dem catch him," Mrs. Campbell said. "Three things could happen when them have him, either him get bail, him get way or him go prison. I was prepared to be with him to the end because I raise him and I think he is innocent."
