PM should publish his memoirs
published: Monday | February 27, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I REALISE that we are not a people given to much 'book writing' by our leaders, especially of memoirs. I wish that the Prime Minister would break that tradition and publish his memoirs.

It would be interesting to read his take on (a) what went 'sour' in the sweet Iran sugar deal; (b) why he felt it necessary to leave the Cabinet in the Shell waiver issue, although there was no evidence of any wrongdoing (compare that with his defence of the former Minister Blythe).

VIEWS

I would also like him to write his view on this - after the Venezuela Trust Fund had been available to finance the Luana oil refinery before 1973, what went wrong at the meeting in Venezuela between Prime Minister Manley and President Carlos Andres Perez why nothing happened? Did the need for funds for the Impact Programme get in the way?

But then our leaders fail to recognise what they should 'write of' in addition to making history.

I am, etc.,
