TIVOLI GARDENS continued their late run of good form when they turned back rivals Boys' Town 1-0 at the Edward Seaga Stadium, to retain their perfect record so far in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League final round.
However, a win for league leaders Harbour View sees them remain a distant 12 points away from the top-placed spot.
"We're far better now than the first or second rounds, this is where we traditionally make our run in the competition, but this season it may be too late based on the format change," said Tivoli's coach Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey.
"But the battle is still there to be fought, there is a far way to go, we just have to keep our consistency because we are playing very well now," he added.
BIG DIFFERENCE
Craig Stewart proved to be the difference for a Tivoli team which dominated in terms of possession and creative play.
Following up on a scoreless first half a surging Tivoli Gardens attacked Boys' Town in droves at the start of second, they would reap the reward for their diligence in the 53rd minute.
A Fabian Davis free kick swung to the far post ended up on the boot of Stewart who was able to easily slot past Boys' Town custodian Kirk Porter, giving his team the all-important goal.
The Tivoli onslaught continued and five minutes later Nicholas McCreath looked to surely have put his team another goal to the good, when a one-two play between himself and Roland Dean culminated with a sizzling shot to goal, barely kept out of the net by Porter with the assistance of the far post.
However, Boys' Town had their fair share of chances to equalise, the best of them came from a curling Michael Campbell free kick 20 yards out 10 minutes from time, but Tivoli custodian Leon Gordon did well enough to fist the effort away. Despite the loss Boys' Town technical director Andrew Price was not too disappointed with his team's effort.
"We played a very good game today but we made a tactical error in not marking up which gave Tivoli the odd goal.
"What we want to do for the rest of the season is to see how many points we can pick up on the road. We didn't get a point today but the effort was good."
The loss sees Boys' Town remain in sixth place with 37 points, while Tivoli remain in third with 45 points.
