Religious Hard Talk a nuisance
published: Tuesday | February 28, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WISH to call to attention the effects of the programme Religious Hard Talk among the citizens of Jamaica. Religious Hard Talk has won the hearts of many Jamaicans and is now a very popular talk show aired on Television Jamaica (TVJ).

Personally, I thought it was good to have a religious talk show on TV, but lately it has become a nuisance in the lives of many Christians. Many Jamaican Christians had the perception that this popular television show would aid greatly in the manifestation of the gospel, but to our surprise, it has been the leading factor of conflict within Christian communities. Because of the non-Christian denomi-nations that are featured on this programme, many illiterates among our nation have adapted their beliefs. This is causing major problems, as Christian witnesses cannot effectively manifest the gospel to people within communities in Jamaica (especially poorer communities).

As a concerned Jamaican Christian citizen, I am imploring the host to limit the programme to Christian denominations. We would like to see more testimonies on the lives of Christian Jamaicans and Christians from all over the world, rather than discriminators of Christianity. These testimonies are vital to our wounded nation and are needed to reach the not yet saved.

The last request given to Christians was to preach the gospel to every people of every nation. I believe this should be the mission "to preach the gospel and save the nation."

I am, etc.,

ANDRAE BENT
