Power of the electorate
published: Tuesday | February 28, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN ORDER to attempt to rectify the crime and corruption among politicians, businessmen, civil servants and police, there has to be a change of governing party first.

Because so may controlling posts and positions have been filled by present Government supporters who have links with people in the above sectors, nobody will be willing to make the first move, because the situation is "if I am exposed, then I expose you" - therefore a stalemate occurs which accounts for the last 15 years of ever increasing complicity with corruption and crime. There are many people who have been ensnared because the corruption has hindered them from conducting their businesses in a timely, correct manner. Therefore, they have had to resort to methods they do not like, quite apart from those who have instigated corrupt practices for monetary or political gain. There must be thousands of questionable decisions and activities which feed on themselves in ever increasing directions.

Common sense tells us, giving the present Government the best will in the world, they are unable to really investigate any corruption to obtain concrete results to act upon, particularly if there is a possibility of top rank exposure, as that may cause their demise.

Vote in a new Government which is not yet encumbered by such associates and let it do what the electorate has voted it in for - clean up the mess, in a just and legal manner. If they do not vote them out at the following election and keep changing Governments until politicians realise that they cannot fool with the electorate.

I am, etc.,

M.I. VEWE
