Bradley Stewart is new Arnett head coach
published: Tuesday | February 28, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

VETERAN COACH Bradley Stewart is the new head coach of Arnett Gardens Football Club, said Patrick Roberts, the club's president, yesterday.

"After interviewing two other coaches, Bradley Stewart got the edge because of his experience, knowledge and, most importantly, he is familiar with most of the players that make up the squad," Roberts told The Gleaner in an interview late yesterday evening.

Stewart, who also had coaching stints with many teams, including Duhaney Park, Los Perfectos, Reno, Hazard, Rivoli and Jamaica College, will take up the position with "immediate effect", said Roberts.

WAITE CUT AFTER LOSS

The club relieved long-time coach Jerome Waite of his duties last week Wednesday following a 0-2 home loss to Boys' Town at their Tony Spaulding Sports Complex home ground. Waite had led the club to two Wray and Nephew National Premier League titles, a runner-up spot and several other trophy successes.

However, the team has not maintained its traditionally strong performances over the last two seasons, while violence has plagued its community, and Roberts said they made a decision to axe Waite because he was not satisfying the mandate to promote its youth.

Meanwhile, Michael Tulloch who had worked alongside Waite for the past two seasons, and was elevated to the lead coach role after Waite's sacking, has been retained as assistant coach.

"The club has retained his services and he will stay on as his (Stewart's) assistant," said Roberts.
