DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Morant Bay hold the lead heading into today's final day of the 2006 Jamaica National (JN)-sponsored Eastern Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Morant Bay lead the overall section with 142 points, 32 ahead of many-time champions Oberlin (110), Glengoffe (69.5), St. Thomas Technical (60) and St. Mary High (58).
Morant Bay are also ahead in the girls' section with 105, 33 more than Oberlin (72) and Glengoffe (58).
Oberlin are the leaders in the boys' section with 38 points over Morant Bay (37) and St. Thomas Technical (25).
OPENING DAY
On yesterday's opening day, held at Stadium East, Sheldon Watson of St. Thomas (4:15.9) won the boys' Class One 1500 ahead of St. Mary High's Lascelles Tulloch (4:16.1), while Peta-Gaye Johnson of Marymount (5:24.2) took the girls' event ahead of St. Thomas Technical's Kerryann Sterling (5:31.4).
In the boys' Class Two event, Morant Bay finished one-two with Horatio Pinnock (4:53.3) and Ryan Miller (4:53.9).
Jerlene Blake of Morant Bay (4:59.2) and Jody Waldron of Oberlin (5:17.9) won the Class Three and Two 1500m respectively.
In the long jump, Dwayne Bryan of Seaforth (6.38m) won the boys' Class One long jump, while Karla Martin of Morant Bay (5.10m) took the girls' Class Two event.
Shaneque Headley of St. Thomas (29.28m) won the girls' Class One discus, while Akeen Haughton-James of St. Mary High (37.50) took the boys' equivalent.
Blessings Forbes of Morant Bay (1.45m) won the Class One girls' high jump, while Glengoffe's Sherikay Campbell (1.60), Valiesha Bailey of Morant Bay (1.53m) and Oretha Powell, also of Morant Bay (5.01m) won in Classes Two, Three and Four respectively.
