Stewart on the double

GAINESVILLE, Florida (CMC):

JAMAICA'S KERRON Stewart produced a fine double win at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Track and Field Championship Saturday that earned her the female performer of the meet award.

Stewart captured the Commis-sioner's Trophy as the top women's scorer after winning the 55 metres in 6.71 seconds and the 200 metres in 23.11, plus helping Auburn to second place in the 4X400-metre relay at the University of Florida.

Jamaicans Patricia Hall and Jovanee Jarrett also won. Hall led the 400-metre field with a 52.67 victory, while the others posted strong field events victories. Spencer logged a season's best 1.88 metres to capture the women's high jump ahead of Miruna Mataoanu (1.81m).

Jamaican Shaunette Davidson and Grenada's Patricia Sylvester were joint fifth at 1.70 metres.

Jarrett posted 6.31 metres to win the women's long jump over Marquita Aldridge (6.30m).

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago's Josanne Lucas (7.67) got third in the women 's 55-metre hurdles behind Beau Walker (7.53) and Ronetta Alexander (7.60), and Jamaican Sekou Clarke (47.23) was third in the men's 400 metres behind Xavier Carter (46.98) and Keith Hinnant (47.13).
