Make the promises reality

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I'M ECSTATIC that Portia won, as I think she will bring a breath of fresh air to politics. She also seems bent on changing the status quo. She signifies hope for us Jamaicans who have been deceived, used and abused by politicians since the inception of the Jamaican political system. She has shown in the past that she is a woman who is willing to stand up for what she believes in, even at the cost of being ostracised by her colleagues. She stood firm even when she came under fire from her colleagues. From then, I developed a new level of respect for her. That is an attribute that should not go unnoticed and must be respected, even moreso in today's politics.
I think the next general election will be soon and very soon, possibly within the next twelve months. Our soon to be Prime Minister Mrs. Simpson Miller does not have a lot of time to deliver on her promises. She has a magnetic presence and the ability to appeal to the populace. However, winning an election takes much more than sheer charisma. I think if she is able to make good on a few of her promises, this will further solidify her trust in the minds of Jamaicans. This would help in giving her a good chance of winning her first general election and fifth term for the People's National Party.
I am, etc.,
