Netball association starts new 'A' league
published: Saturday | March 4, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

THE JAMAICA Netball Association (JNA), in a move to strengthen competition within its leagues, starts a new A League today.

With the sponsorship of Supreme Ventures powering the thrust, the JNA will now have a league that fills the gap between Super League teams and the Western Union-sponsored Intermediate Division B League.

The move will be made public at a launch that begins this afternoon at 2:30.

The teams that will join the newly-formed A League are as follows:

Ravens 'A', Hampshire 'A', Molynes United 'A', Alexander Strikers, Ocho Rios Magics, Springfield, Braeton, Omega, Blades United and Ebony Strikers 'A',

For a number of years, the competition at the top of the B League has been lacking, with one or two teams being dominant, while at the bottom of the Super League were teams that have been trounced by the more experienced teams.

Having already sponsored the Division C League, Supreme Ventures will now tackle the A League.

The C League will now be reserved for mainly younger teams and will be split into three zones.

In Zone One, Molynes United 'B', Police 'C', Duhaney Strikers, UWI Revolution, Progressive Strikers and New Kingston Raiders will vie for the top spots.

Zone Two comprises Alpha 'B', Friendship, Hampshire 'B', Skibo 'B', Torrington Park 'B' and Greenwich 'B'.

Zone Three will include Speg 'B', Ebony Strikers 'B', De La Vega 'B', G.C. Foster Strikers, Hagley Park, Greenwich 'A' and Up Park Camp.
