NATIONAL CHAMPIONS Brigitte Foster-Hylton and Kemel Thompson secured victories at yesterday's Telstra A-Series track and field meet in Brisbane, Australia.
In heavy rain and strong winds at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre, Foster-Hylton won the 100m hurdles and Thompson the 400m hurdles.
Foster-Hylton was timed in 13.23 seconds as she beat Australian teenager Sally McLellan (13.33) and Canadian Jessica Zelinka (13.52).
After the event, Foster-Hylton told journalists that she hasn't gotten used to the conditions yet.
"It's 3:00 in the morning in Jamaica so I'm half awake, or half asleep," she said.

"It's good to blow the cobwebs out. It's better than I expected, I didn't think I'd break 13.5."
In the men's 400m hurdles, Thompson stopped the clock in 49.24 seconds for his victory. Thompson, the national 400m hurdles champion, won ahead of homeboys Brendan Cole (50.19) and Tristan Thomas (51.12).
Meanwhile,World Champion-ships 100m silver medallist Michael Frater was seventh in the men's 100m, clocking 10.66 seconds.
Australian national record holder Patrick Johnson won in 10.53 seconds.
"That was just a stepping stone - but it's good to have the competition," said Johnson. "There are still some great runners to face."
In section one (B section), Ainsley Waugh finished third in 10.73 while Winston Smith was seventh in 11.02. Marlon Devonish of England won that section in 10.60.
World Championships sprint relay silver medallist Danielle Browning was seventh in the women's 100m in 12.16 seconds. McLellan won the event in 11.80.
Sandie Richards failed to finish in the women's 400m.
