POLICE COMMISSIONER Lucius Thomas has placed members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on high alert, following intelligence that there is a plot to attack members of the police force, in retaliation for the death of reputed One Order gang leader, Andrew 'Bunman' Hope.
Hope, was murdered in Spanish Town last month allegedly by gunmen.
The commissioner's move also follows last Thursday's violent attack on a police corporal who sustained injuries during a shooting incident in which his six-year-old daughter was killed.
"We have advised our police to be on high alert and remain resolute. This does not mean that we will be backing down," Commissioner Thomas told The Gleaner yesterday.
There are allegations that members of the Spanish Town based One Order gang are claiming that members of the police force were responsible for the death of the 28-year-old gang leader.
There are further allegations that Thursday's shooting was aimed at killing the corporal when he and his daughter were ambushed by gunmen along the Hartlands main road, St. Catherine.
While declining to provide detailed comments on the injured policeman, Commis-sioner Thomas said he has been receiving counselling.
"He and his family are being taken care of," said the Police Commissioner, who also sought to assure that residents of Spanish Town communities will also be protected against any act of violence by criminals.
Andrew Hope is scheduled to be buried on Wednesday at the Number Five Cemetery, located near Tawes Pen, where the One Order gang is based in Spanish Town.
Reports are that the Spanish Town cemetery was ordered closed by the St. Catherine Parish Council more than eight years ago, but it has been reopened to facilitate Hope's burial.
