Experience and qualification
published: Monday | March 6, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SOME OF those who questioned and continue to question the academic qualifications of Minister Portia Simpson Miller, are dishonest because they know that she has far above average education in the way education is usually understood.

Others are ignorant because they do not know that the true meaning and purpose of education is to prepare one for one's chosen career.

She is, therefore, highly educated through learning and experience for her chosen profession, as evidenced by her appointments to the Cabinet by both Michael Manley and P.J. Patterson.

Her qualification is also fortified by her wealth of experience in public adminis-tration and unquestionable above average intelligence which transcends academic qualifi-cations in subjects which are not relevant.

The only way for Jamaica to succeed is for its citizens (People's National Party(PNP), Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and no P) to unite around and cooperate with the government, because it is well known that united we stand, divided we fall.

The JLP, in particular, should respect this principle and do unto others as they would like to have done to themselves and stop opposing and opposing for opposing sake and give support, for example, to any act on the part of the government, such as to participate in the CCJ, which is calculated to continue in its efforts to liberate our people from colonization in all forms.

I am etc.
