Wanted man found hanging
published: Monday | March 6, 2006

Adrian Frater, News Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE BODY of a St. Elizabeth man, who was wanted by the police in connection with the death of his common-law wife, was found hanging from a tree in the community of Fyffe's Pen in the parish yesterday.

The deceased - Donovan Rutherford believed to be in his 30s - was the subject of a police manhunt since the death of his common-law wife on Saturday.

According to reports from Fyffe's Pen residents, shortly after daybreak yesterday, Ruther-ford's body was observed hanging from a length of rope from a tree in a secluded area of the community.

It is reported that relatives of Rutherford's common-law wife, 28-year-old Calesia Porter, went in search of her on Saturday, after she failed to return home from a visit to Rutherford's house.

The police say her body was found on a bed in Rutherford's house, with several wounds.

According to the police, the wounds appeared to have been inflicted during a struggle.

It is alleged that Rutherford and Porter were involved in an often violent relationship.
