Barrett fends off Boys' Town

BOYS' TOWN played spec-tacularly to come from behind twice and earn a 2-2 draw against Wadadah in Wray and Nephew National Premier League action at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

Boys' Town started the game behind the eight-ball as Jermaine Anderson slammed home a 12th- minute penalty to put Wadadah ahead against the run of play.

However, Boys' Town showed resilience and after a host of missed opportunities equalised in the 41st minute through a Denzil Watson strike.

It looked as if it was going to be Wadadah's day though as three minutes later, their captain Daniel Ricketts put the team back in front, after Kirk Porter spilled his near-post drive.

Playing once again from behind, Boys' Town showed they were the better team by producing most of the game's attacking moves, but had to wait until the 78th minute before Fabian Watkins slammed home a penalty.

In truth, the game was really between Boys' Town's attackers and Wadadah's goalkeeper Gavine Barrett, who after only seeing two goals go past him, can count himself the game's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The MVP was in scintillating form, saving shots from Michael Campbell, Oneil Thompson, George Vernal, and a spectacular bicycle from Watson, all within the first 10 minutes of the game.

The trend was to continue throughout the game with Boys' Town breaking down the Wadadah back line at will but failing to beat the alert Barrett.

In an effort to make sure they gave Barrett no chance, Boys' Town also shot themselves in the foot, going for power and missing the target completely at the end of a number of good moves.

After the highly one-sided affair, Wadadah's coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams was happy for the point, in his bid to stay out of the relegation zone.

At present, his team has 29 points but are closely followed by Reno (27), and Constant Spring (22).

"This one could be called a workman-like one point. I think Boys' Town deserved to win this game because at some points you could have said it was Boys' Town versus the goalkeeper," said Williams.

Boys' Town's coach Andrew Price, who is always unhappy when his team doesn't win, was surprisingly sedate about the result, but made sure to point out that his team should have won the game.

"We didn't take the oppor-tunities as they came and we gave up two soft goals which count towards their discipline. All in all though I liked the character that the team showed in coming from behind twice," he said.

GOALSHEET

BOYS' TOWN 2

Denzil Watson 41st, Fabian Watkins 78th

WADADAH 2

Jermaine Anderson 12th, Daniel Ricketts 44th
