GC Foster Classic on Saturday
published: Wednesday | March 8, 2006

THE ANNUAL Supligen/G.C. Foster College Classic returns this weekend to the school's ground in Angels, St. Catherine.

After taking a break last year, Saturday's classic will be the last-chance meet for qualification for the Boys' and Girls' Championships set for the National Stadium from March 29 to April 1.

Coaches will be able to have the last look at their athletes in a competitive situation, especially since they were idle last weekend.

A SHARPENER BEFORE CHAMPS

Chairman of the Supligen/G.C. Foster College Classic organising committee, Ventley Brown, said this is the meet teams want to be at on the weekend.

"This meet (last chance) is to help athletes sharpen up before Champs and to secure the qualifying times/marks for those who have not yet met the standards," Brown said.

Brown also said more than the 84 schools they hosted in 2004 were expected to compete this year.

So far, he said, Holmwood, Ardenne, Tarrant, Bridgeport and Immaculate were among the schools already confirmed.

The events to be contested are: 200m, 400m, 800m, all hurdles, all field events (except pole vault), 3,000m, 5,000m, 4x400m and invitational 100m for males and females.

Athletes from the Jamaica Masters Athletics Association are down to run 100m and 800m events.
