C&WJ preparing for Flow
published: Saturday | March 11, 2006

Dennise Williams, Staff Reporter

CABLE & Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) has developed a strategy to take on the coming new low cost competition from Flow, says Grant Mercer, C&WJ senior vice-president of marketing and communication.

There are concerns in the investing community that Flow, the new telecommunications company, will take significant market share from the company with its high-speed fibre optic cables. Mr. Mercer explained that C&WJ had changed its methods to better react to the changing telecommunications market place.

"The old Cable & Wireless didn't expect competition," he said. "Now, after the blow from Digicel, we have learned our lesson."

In a previous interview, the chief executive of FibraLink, parent company of Flow said that the "goal is to offer Jamaican businesses ultra-high speed Internet, digital landline service and digital cable TV with over 250 channels from one service provider."

Mr. Mercer is not worried.

"We at C&WJ have developed products that are right for the marketplace. We make sure our products are competitive enough so as not to be too adversely affected by competition," he said.
