Remember our sons
published: Saturday | March 11, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHILE THE country celebrates Mrs. Simpson Miller's success in the presidential and ministerial race, my major concern is for the men of this country. There is something frightening going on with our men, from the head of the country to the 'tail'. They are not functioning effectively in the roles given to them as heads of their families or head of the country.

There are more boys in the non-traditional high schools, where the majority of them are reading below grade levels. Boys in grades eight and nine are reading at grades 2 and 1 or not at all. They are the ones on every street corner, wiping windscreens, committing gruesome acts of crime and begging on the streets.

I congratulate Mrs. Simpson Miller and urge her to press for the mark of the higher calling. Mama, when you get there, PLEASE REMEMBER OUR SONS.

I am, etc.,
