THE EDITOR, Sir:
On Thursday, March 9, at approximately 7:00 am., I was alerted to the strong presence of police and soldiers in my community Dela-Vega City.
At first I wondered if there was some curfew posed on the community, so I watched to see what was happening.
The officers came to repaint the wall on which the portrait of Donovan 'Bulbie' Bennett was erected in the community.
It leaves me to wonder if this is the beginning of a new initiative by the St. Catherine North police to remove portraits of dons or gang leaders from communities.
I dare to ask DSP Grant if this action will be seen taking place in other communities in and around Spanish Town? Will this be an ongoing exercise that is probably geared to the reduction of crime? If so, why hasn't there been any dialogue between the police, the elected officials and the community leaders about this exercise?
It leaves me with the feeling that my community must be extra special for such a huge effort to be made in this manner.
I am, etc.,
