MONA HELD the upper hand against Meadowbrook while defending champions Eltham and Tarrant were locked in an intense battle as the Grace Shield Premier League semi-final round bowled off yesterday.

At Mona, the home team took first innings points from Meadowbrook.

Batting first, Mona were dismissed for 169, with Keron Davis 51, Mardio Grandstand 42, and David Lewis 28, getting the most runs against some fine bowling from Winston Wallace (3-9), Robert Williams (3-31) and Jermaine Cole (2-41).

In reply, Meadowbrook were dismissed for 130. It was a score which could have been worse, but for their lower order which lifted them from a sorry 70-6.

Yanick Chung was left not out on 39. Phillip Smith, 4-41, and Janiel Austin, 2-21, were the pick of the bowlers.

Mona will resume their second innings on 17-1 when second-day action begins at 10:00 this morning.

At Tarrant, Eltham scored 220. Romeo Dunka, 46, and Schacoya Thomas, 42, got the most runs while Lloyd Gould claimed 6-62.

Tarrant were 28-1 when rain stopped play.

HEADLEY CUP

Meanwhile, in quarter-final action from the Headley Cup, many-time champions STETHS and defending champions Holmwood are battling for the first innings lead.

Holmwood were blown away for 105 with opener Jeffrey Scott getting 71 not out and Linton Buchanan claiming 6-26 for STETHS.

In reply, STETHS were 85-5. Nickoy Samuels made 18, while Jamaica Under-19 batsman Damion Ebanks was not out on 27.

At Glenmuir, the hosts, replying to Garvey Maceo's 118 (Tashare Bryan 51, Robert Williams 5-15), closed on 226-9 (Tafari Green 82 not out, Keron Thomas 69).
